The Recorded History of Casino Craps

The recorded history of Craps dates all the way back to a dice game called Hazard, which goes all the way back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in 1813. Hazard is thought to be a descendant of Azzahr, meaning 'the die' a game enjoyed by Arabs.

The game evolved as it spread out from the Arab countries to France and then to the UK. By the early 1700s, cultivated established rules for Hazard had been developed. France started playing the British version of Hazard and is believed to have been brought to the new world by early French settlers. In the mid-1700s, when the British defeated the French in British North America, the French colonizers relocated to Louisiana. Dice were enjoyed on river boats, casinos and wharfs and a streamlined 'US' version of Craps was created. The game moved west and is a favored game that is competed in all over the United States and around the planet.

The name 'Craps' is theorized to be a French enunciation of the term crabs, which means two '1s'. There are two basic varieties of Craps that are played-street Craps and bank Craps. Street caps, correctly named seeing as it's bet on the streets is where a player sets a point and then tries to acquire that point. The betting is made either with or against the hurler and a player has to cover the wager in order for the craps game to continue.

The participants wager against the casino-the house covers all of the wagers of all of the gamblers. Craps once was a quite well-liked game but in the past 20 years had divided itself and different games, such as poker and chemin de fer became more well-known. However, Craps is seeing a surge in recognition once again in net betting houses and in real world betting houses.
